What is this FAQ for?

Based on information requested by customers, this FAQ is designed to cover issues relating to the MSR attached to Vibrant LP-12xxxR and LP15xxR 15" monitor.

If you are using this FAQ for the first time, it is suggested that you follow through the items below in the order they are written, more experienced users can click on the links below to jump directly to the appropriate areas of interest.

Answers

1.01. How do I communciate with the MSR.
Connect the male PS/2 connector of the MSR Y lead into the PS/2 socket on your PC.

Note: Ensure that a keyboard or keyboard emulator is connected to the remaining connector of the MSR Y cable before attempting to communicate with the MSR.

Install the Slot Reader V3.43 or V3.44 software from the 3 floppy disks supplied with your monitor.

Select Windows Start Menu/Programs/S64 Decoder as shown below.



The S64 configuration screen will appear as below.


To setup the configuration and save settings to the MSR EEPROM.....

First setup the interface type for your MSR.
Select Magnic_Reader from the menu bar then click on Interface from the drop down menu as shown below.


Or, alternatively, click on the Magnetic Reader icon shown below...



Setup the interface options
Next click on the Interface tab to bring up the Interface options. As your MSR is a keyboard wedge type, click on Keyboard mode as shown below.




Setup the Terminal type options
Select Magnic_Reader then Communication from the drop down menu. Next select the Keyboard tab. Ensure that Terminal type is IBM PC/AT,PS/2 is selected as shown below..



Your are now ready to configure the MSR to your personal requirements !

1.02. How do I configure the MSR for my personal requirements.

Once the settings in 1.01 have been set it is now possible to configure the MSR to your personal preferences. For example click on the Magic_Reader/Communication/Output Characters tab shown below...



Here it is possible to select the characters that follow after the output data. In the example above Carriage Return and Line Feed is selected. Please note that the STX-ETX option is not valid for your keyboard wedge MSR. The Time-Out Between Characters option adjusts the delay time between each character as it transmitted from the MSR, the options are 0 ms and 15 ms. Selecting the Set Default button returns the options to the default settings.

Configure the Card Standard and track selection options.
Click on the Magnetic Reader tab to select the Card Standard and Track Selection options.

Options are as follows...
Track Selection: Selects output track(s) and order in which they are transmitted.
Single Track: Output any first decoded track.
Auto: Automatically detect tracks on the card.Output decoded data of all detected tracks.
Any: Output any decoded track(s).
Send Star/Stop Character: Enable or disable start/stop character transmission.
Track 2 Account Number Only: Enable to output account number only for track 2.
Separator Character (For Dual or Triple Tracks): Select output character between tracks. Use the pull down menu to select the desired control code.
Set Default: Return to default settings.

To set up the Language, Tracks Edit and Start and End Characters select Magnic_Reader then Miscellaneous from the drop down menu. To set the language, click on the Language tab. In the example below US English is selected.


To set up the Prefix and Sufix characters click on the Tracks Edit tab. Here you can enter up to four characters which are transmitted before (Prefix) or after (Sufix) the output data.


To set up the Start and End characters click on the Start and End Char tab. Here you can define which charcters are sent at the start and end of each track. The default settings are shown below...



1.03. How do I transmit my settings to the MSR.

To save your settings in the MSR EEPROM select Magnic_Reader then Transmit from the drop down menu.

Ensure that the By Keyboard option is selected as shown above...

Click on the Download to Decoder button to save your setting in MSR memory. When the download is complete the Download OK message box will appear, Click on the OK button to continue.

Your setting are now saved in the MSR EEPROM, click on the Close button, then File and Exit from the main menu to exit the S64 configuration software.
