Answers
1.01. My new machine displays the error message "Disk Boot Failure"
at power up.
This will occur when no operating system (O/S) is installed.
Normally the machine will not be supplied with an O/S installed
as it is usually more cost effective for the customer to source
the O/S themselves. If you require an O/S, please specify
at the time of purchase.
1.02. When I reduce the resolution from maximum, the display area
reduces in size.
To "stretch" the image back to fill the screen, locate the driver
CD supplied with the machine and open the VGA folder. Inside will
be another folder labelled SM1721 control panel. Select either the
Win98/ME or Win2000 folder and install the SM1721 control panel
onto the machine.
Once installed, click on the SM1721 control panel icon next to the
clock in the bottom right hand corner of the screen

Now it is possible to toggle stretch
mode on or off in the Display properties/Lynx3DM options box.
1.03. Can the customer display emulate an Epson display?
No, the TPOSN serial customer display uses EMAX/UTC or AEDEX command
sets. A description of the necessary commands is available in the
technical manual .TPOSN Technical Ref V10.pdf.
1.04. How do I configure the MSR?
First download the MSR manual, MSR Simple manual.pdf. The
magnetic card reader can be configured for a number of options.
These include... Set Country / Set Tracks / Set magnetic string,
Prefix, Suffix, Preambles Postambles / Transmit data speed / Buzzer
/ Show status.
To enter configuration mode.....
Connect a keyboard to the MSR Y lead PS/2 connector.
Connect the Y plug into the TPOS PS/2 keyboard socket.
Execute a text editor program such as Microsoft Note Pad.
While in notepad, press and hold [Left-Ctrl], [Left-Alt] and [F10]
keys, the Main Configuration menu will appear on screen.
Changes will be saved after exiting the menu screen.
1.05. How can I check the customer display is working or send text
to the display?
Download and the execute the file TPOS_LD_Demo.exe. If
your display has stopped working, please check the following settings.....
1. In the BIOS settings - "Integrated Peripherials", Check COM3
is set to "3E8" and COM4 - "2E8"
2. Under Windows System, please check the "COM & LPT" in the
"Device Manager", check COM3 is installed OK - Resource address
is "3E8" and IRQ "10"?
1.06. How do I control the cashdrawer port?
TPOS is fitted with a dedicated RJ11 cashdrawer port. The pinout
for this port is shown below.

This port supports the same pinout
as the EPSON / START receive printer cashdrawer interface. To open
the cashdrawer, write the following sequence to port I/O Address
400H (R/W) in the format shown below :
Note: After opening the cashdrawer, please reset this Bit after
200~500ms to avoid overstressing the Cashdrawer solenoid.
The cashdrawer Open / Close Status and Connect / Disconnect status
can also be verified as shown below.

1.7. Can I add a second hard drive to my unit?
For mechanical reasons it is not possible to add a second hard
drive permanently however a second hard can be connected temporarily
( for the purpose of copying drivers/data across ).
Remove the hard driver and connect a dual 40 pin IDE cable and dual
IDE power cable to the connectors in the hard drive bay. Configure
the second HDD as a slave device and boot the machine up. The second
hard drive will be logged as drive D.
1.8. How do I install the operating system.
TPOS does not have a built in CDROM
therefore first decide which method you want to use.....
1) Using a standard CDROM.
2) Remove the HDD and copying files over on an external PC.
1) Using a standard CDROM
Remove the HDD as shown below in Fig 1.
Connect the 40 pin IDE cable and the
Power cable Y splitter to the ports shown below.
Configure the CDROM as a Slave device and attach both CDROM and
HHD to the IDE ribbon cable.
Boot the machine and press "DEL" to enter the BIOS, select
option 2, set the "1st Boot Device" to CDROM, then select
"Save and Exit BIOS" and the machine will reboot.
The CDROM should be detected and automatically
start Windows installation. Should the installation not automatically
run, navigate to the CDROM and type "SETUP.EXE" then follow Windows
installation instructions.
After installation is completed, re-enter the BIOS and set the first
boot device to "IDE 0".

1.10. What should I do if my unit goes faulty?
Contact the service department by phone on 01952 280311 or email
Vibrant
Service. The service department will issue an RMA number
and give full details of the returns procedure. Please note:
After repair the machine will be returned in "as new" condition
therefore it is important for customers to retreive all data from
the removable hard drive before the unit is returned.
1.11. Can I add extra memory myself?
The RAM module used internally is SDRAM 128MB 168 pin PC133.
As there is only 1 DIMM socket internally you will need to replace
the internal memory. The maximum allowed is 256MB. The TPOS does
not use low profile memory so there are no physical height restrictions
on memory size.
1.12. The ELO touch screen installer software is asking for the
port number for the touch screen, which port is used?
The touch screen software should be installed on COM2.
1.13. Can I connect a wireless LAN inside these units?
It is not possible to fit a wireless LAN card inside TPOS because
most wireless LAN cards are PCMCIA and there are no PCMCIA slots
available. We recommend using the Ethernet port to connect to a
wireless LAN Access Point. A range of Vibrant wireless products
can be found here.
1.14. I have lost the drivers CD, where can I download the drivers?
Drivers can be download from the Vibrant website, please click
